If you own a large breed or a power chewer, you’ve heard of KONG. They are the gold standard for many pet owners, but does the KONG Goodie Ribbon live up to the hype for a dog with Blue's strength and specific health needs?

1. Durability: 4.8/5

Blue is a powerhouse, and this toy is exceptionally strong. It is made of that thick, high-quality rubber KONG is known for. After weeks of heavy use, it still looks brand new. For a pitbull owner, finding a toy that doesn’t end up in pieces within ten minutes is a huge win. This is definitely one of the most durable "stuffable" toys we’ve ever tested.

2. Interaction: 4.5/5

This is where the toy's design shines. The "ribbon" shape features four holes that go all the way through, which are perfect for stuffing. However, Blue is a smart boy—if there’s no treat inside, his motivation to interact with it drops. It’s an interactive tool, but it relies on you providing a high-value incentive to keep them engaged.

3. Entertainment: 4.2/5

I’ll be honest: it’s not a "flashy" toy. There are no squeakers, it’s not squishy, and it doesn’t bounce in crazy directions. It’s a solid hunk of rubber. Its primary job is to keep a dog busy and stop them from chewing on your furniture. If you find a treat that your dog loves, it will keep them occupied for a long time. If the treat isn't worth the effort, they might move on.

4. Price vs. Value: 5/5

For the price I paid, the value is unbeatable. Because it’s so durable and still looks like it just came out of the box, it’s an investment that pays for itself. You won’t be replacing this one every week.

Filling the KONG: Solving the Allergy & "No Peanut Butter" Puzzle

One of the biggest challenges with the Goodie Ribbon is finding the right "stuffing."

As many of you know from Blue’s journey on CordovasCorner.com, managing skin allergies is a top priority for us. It’s hard to watch your dog suffer from itching, so I’m very careful about what he eats. For example, I stay away from sweet potatoes because they tend to make his itching worse.

Even weirder? Blue does not like peanut butter. I know, a dog that doesn't like peanut butter sounds impossible, but Blue is unique!

The "Squeeze Cheese" Dilemma

Blue absolutely loves KONG Squeeze Cheese. The consistency is perfect for the ribbon holes. However, I have to be honest with you all: I don’t really recommend it. It’s not the healthiest option, and I’m doing my best to phase it out of his diet entirely to help his skin.

Healthy, Allergy-Friendly Alternatives We’re Trying:

  • Plain Greek Yogurt: Great consistency for stuffing and usually safe for dogs with grain or meat allergies.

  • Mashed Banana: A natural "paste" that Blue actually enjoys.

  • Canned Pumpkin (Pure): Not sweet potato! Just make sure it’s 100% pumpkin with no added spices or sugar.

  • Frozen Wet Food: Taking Blue’s specific allergy-safe wet food, stuffing it in the holes, and freezing it makes the "Entertainment" factor go way up.

Final Verdict

The KONG Goodie Ribbon is a staple for any large breed owner who needs a durable solution for a bored dog. It stops destructive chewing and provides a great mental challenge—provided you find a healthy stuffing your dog loves.
