The Day We Met Blue at the Tulsa Animal Shelter

When my girlfriend and I walked into the Tulsa Animal Shelter, we weren’t sure what kind of dog we’d bring home. We saw several pups that day, including a small brown and white terrier mix—playful, friendly, and the perfect size for apartment living. My girlfriend was drawn to him immediately.

But as we looked around a little more, we came across a scraggly grey and white pit bull. He was barely two years old, shy yet playful, with big hazel eyes that seemed to tell his whole story. The shelter staff explained that he had been adopted once before but returned because he wasn’t good with cats. Worse yet, they told us he was on his “last chance”—if no one adopted him soon, he would be euthanized.

In that moment, I knew we couldn’t let that happen. We decided right then and there: this pit bull was coming home with us. His name became Blue, and from that day forward, he became the heart of our family.

From Last Chance to Family Hero

When we first brought Blue home, he was skinny and bony, but full of spirit. We quickly realized something profound: we didn’t just save Blue—Blue saved us. Since June, he has filled our home with love, joy, and laughter. It feels like he’s been with us forever.
